Dress from body sloper + necklines + ski

Project Description

What are you most proud of? That I actually managed to make it in time, and more or less managed to get the design that I wanted. What advice would you give someone starting this project? It was rather hard to work with the thick wool. The pressing was difficult, and really important in order to get a nice finish. Probably spent twice the amount of time pressing compared to sewing!

What you will need

  • Heavy structured furniture wool fabric for shell
  • rayon lining. Bias binding for hemming.

You've done a beautiful job. I'm getting ready to make a similar dress. For the skirt, I see you did a box pleat. How many inches did you add at the waist to make the box pleat, and did you increase it even more at the hem? (as an A line would). If so, how much? I love how you've sewn around the box pleat to draw attention to it too! one more thing, did you make the front into a princess line and keep the back as darts? It looks that way. I'm a new sewer so my questions may seem obvious but I really think this dress is so flattering!!

Hi, thank you for your nice words. For the box pleat I added a total of 16 cm to each box pleat. I kept the same width all over (as I had problems understanding how to increase without sewing a separate triangular piece in). Yes, front is princess seam, kept the back darts as you correctly observe. Good luck with your dress! If doing it again I would move the waist higher up, and add more flare to the skirt :)
