Couture Dress

Project Description

What was your inspiration? I need some help from more expiernced fitters out there! I am very short waisted, and so to help with this I pinned up the top of the shoudlers by 1.5" or so. But there are other issues. I think the bodice may just be too big. I made it per the pattern measurements, but it didn't work out. I am thinking about making a smaller bodice and attaching it to the midriff and skirt that I already made. HELP - I need advice.

Q&A with LakeWylieMom

Julie Eilber asked:
I think Susan K. answers questions if you post them in the actually segment of the class. There are also fitting tutorials on Threads.com. After I took this class I realized that bodice fitting is one of the hardest parts of sewing like this. I am short-waisted, too, so please share any insight you get!
LakeWylieMom answered:
Ah, well, I will try to add the sleeves to see what kind of fabric I need to take up. Right now, there is a LOT that is gaping under the arms.
Anabella asked:
your wrong, i just saw your muslim well done , really nice... i just can't wait until u are all done with your dress...you goo girl!!!
LakeWylieMom answered:
I am reading up in the book that Susan recommended for fitting then I will do the alterations. I think for the fashion fabric I am going to do a lace overlay on satin/silk. I will keep posting pictures!
petisita asked:
Hi LakeWylieMom - I am 3/4 through construction of my dress, was browsing projects, and saw your muslin post. I live in Belmont and am also petite and sew lots. I am not an expert but happy to help you when you need extra hands for fitting, etc.
LakeWylieMom answered:
Really? That would be great. I would love to meet you especially since you live so close. We could be sewing buddies, so few people sew anymore. Do you want to go to lunch this week? I am so sorry I just didn't see your post until today 10-6-13. I need to figure out how to private message you.
