Couture Dress

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I learned so many techniques that can be used with every-day sewing. I didn't think I'd like all the hand sewing, but it was relaxing and actually much easier to make lines match. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Watch the entire class once, then watch each segment as you work on the project.

What you will need

  • linen
  • silk lining
  • silk organza underlining

Q&A with LynnWA

J.M. asked:
That looks so wonderful! Great work! You give me hope that some day I too will make a dress that fits so nicely. :)
LynnWA answered:
Thanks! I had it sewn except for the lining, but didn't like the fit. So I sent a picture to Susan Kahlje and she could tell from the picture what I needed to do to fix it! Amazing!
MyTurnNow asked:
Wow, it is beautiful! I agree, I am watching the class first before I even begin my project. How long did it take to complete the dress?
LynnWA answered:
Thank you! It took a month or so, mostly because I don't have that much time to sew.
FineFabric asked:
Great Job! Will you make another couture dress? Or was one enough? I have not received my pattern yet but have watched the entire video. I hope I fall in love with the process, otherwise I will be making only one dress.
LynnWA answered:
I may make another couture dress, but not this one. I have already used some of the couture techniques in a jacket and blouse. Hope you have received your pattern and have started!
Julie Ann Moore asked:
Beautiful fit! My body type is out of proportion...larger on top with slim hips and I can't buy a fitted dress off the rack. That's why I'm considering this class. You did a beautiful job of tailoring your dress to flatter your figure perfectly"
LynnWA answered:
Thank you! This class helped me with fit and techinqus that I continue to use in every day sewing. It's one of my favorite craftsy classes.
