Couture Dress Class

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I'm most proud of the fact that I didn't give up all those times I wanted to :-). What advice would you give someone starting this project? Deciding to keep going really helped me keep learning. I screwed up the kick pleat on the back of my dress, and a bunch of other things, but I learned so many useful techniques doing this that I continue to use over and over on other projects. Stay with it!!

What you will need

  • Fashion fabric (purchased at The Common Thread
  • here in Austin
  • TX): Cotton chambray - Blue threads warp and orange-y weft makes it iridescent! Underlining: Silk Organza - Sort of a flesh/golden color Lining: TBD - Want to get a patterned silk of some kind
  • but something that won't show through...

Q&A with Susan_K

drawer46 asked:
Beautiful fabric. How far along are you? I'm working on my muslin.
Susan_K answered:
I've got it sewn together. It is a sleeveless, so I still need to determine the exact placing of armholes, stay stitch and press, and then make the lining.
pickledplatypus asked:
Susan - I want to see a picture of the dress with you in it!
Susan_K answered:
LOL! I have camera issues, plus I want to fix the kick pleat before I send it out to the universe. Maybe I should just get over that! Happy you are my craftsy friend!!
