Civil Partnership 3/8/2013: Dawn's dress

Project Description

What are you most proud of? All the hand sewing: I made hand sewn eyelets for the back lacing, hand sewed the sleeves beacause I was scared that the sewing machine would eat the ultra-fine silk chiffon, and then there was all that beading. The back of the dress weighs a ton, and there is a serious amount of scaffolding built into the inside...all sorts of criss crossed strips of silk organza selvedge. Other firsts: I piped the hem, and the back opening edges, which gave just the right amount of structure without making the dress bulky or stiff. What advice would you give someone starting this project? I highly recommend this pattern- it's really beautiful. If you're beading, don't forget to reinforce the structure! I was very surprised at the weight of the finished work.

What you will need

  • Shot silk dupion
  • silk changeant [chiffon]
  • cotton lawn and silk organza. LOTS of beads.
