Child's peasant dress

Project Description

What are you most proud of? That I got the hems perfect! My niece lives 10 hours away and I did he whole thing based on text messages from my sister. I would send her an emergency message ask for another specific measurement and then wait seeming forever for her to get back to me. After all one does not desturb an tiny childs nap to measure how long her arms are. Lol. When I go there and gave her the outfit she was so excited. She kept twirling and calling it her spinny dress. I was very glad that the helms were in the right place and I didn't have to alter anything. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Don't be afraid to reinvent a pattern to suit your vision. I very rarely use a pattern without altering it. I think Of them as basic guides for sizing.

Q&A with Yarnaholic4ever

Annette Doyle asked:
What pattern did you use for the dress?
Yarnaholic4ever answered:
I redesigned a Snow White pattern from Simplicity. # 2563. I removed the sleeves and changed the back zipper to a front lacing. I also changed the solid skirt to a split front. I added shoulder lacings and extra fabric at the hem so the dress can be let out as she grows. I used a pioneer pattern from McCalls for the chemise. # M4547. I customized the length to match the over dress and have it longer, fuller sleeves. I hope this helps. If give it a try I would love to see your pictures.
