Celtic Sashiko pillows

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I think this came out very nice. Now I'd like to make some for myself. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Understand the basics of sashiko, it is stitched to stabilize and strengthen, You are not just making stitches into a design, you are using the stitches. That's what makes it come out smooth and strong without bunching up. If it's your first time I'd recommend practicing on sashiko fabric to get your hand-stitching comfortable and consistent. Many shops do not carry this, you can get it on-line however.

What you will need

  • I used a sashiko kit (printed material) but it wouldn't be necessary if you can draw lines on fabric. Sashiko thread or DMC floss
  • sashiko needle
  • pillow form
  • piping
  • backing.
