Brown/cream crepe tunic

Project Description

What are you most proud of? The collar worked really well. As with another project, using a hemostat to turn the collar points makes quick, easy work of a collar. Also, I used silk organza to interface the collar, collar band and cuffs since the crepe was so lightweight. Next time I might double the organza or use regular interfacing in the collar band, but stick with the organza for the collar itself and the cuffs. Using organza helped to preserve the integrity of the crepe. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Be willing to make adjustments. I will probably go down a size next time I make this. It was just a tiny bit too big across the shoulders. If necessary, I'll do a FBA. Also, for this view (C), I may add 2 long darts in the back to take up some of the fullness. Great pattern. Went together easily. Anxious to try some of the other views, especially those with princess seams. Also, as wide as the cuff is, 2 buttons might work better at holding things in place than just the one. I have gone back and added darts in the front and back. As happy as I was with this before, I'm even more pleased with the fit.

What you will need

  • Lightweight crepe (again
  • from an inherited stash). Haven't determined fabric content. It did go through the washer and dryer quite well.

Q&A with Cheryl Lemmons

Scheri Manson asked:
Beautiful. Imagine and you thought this was a muslin. Beautiful work. Cant wait to see your daughters version.
Cheryl Lemmons answered:
Thank you, Scheri. Need to find that turquoise silk satin. That's proving to be a bit of a challenge. The next project demands a muslin from muslin.
swedelady asked:

This fabric did turn out to be perfect for this project. This stash I've inherited has some real treasures.

Beautiful work, and what a great fabric. Hmmm...I think I need one of
Cheryl Lemmons answered:
Thank you! Wish I could tell you where to find this fabric. Don't even know how old it is. The soft crepe is a perfect texture for this pattern.
