Basic Fitted Tank

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I couldn't find the right kind of navy blue shirt for a recent vacation, so I started this the day before the trip, and finished it on the plane - a great way to pass those hours! What advice would you give someone starting this project? If you don't like the look of an unfinished hem, you can easily incorporate the hem from an existing tee shirt when you make a new version. This was a men's XL, and I got a nice long tank out of it, and was able to keep most of the hem. I decided to fell the front and back center seams on the outside, and embellish with the herringbone stitch. I felled all other seams to the inside and used navy thread so that the focus remained on the more limited white stitching.

What you will need

  • recycled cotton jersey tee
  • button craft thread

Q&A with faux nom

DrFun asked:
Gorgeous! Did you dye the shirt, or was it already blue?
faux nom answered:
Thanks! I made it from a cotton/spandex jersey sheet, already blue.
