Alabama Chanin style Jacket

What you will need

  • I used 100% cotton jersey from t-shirts. This project began as a wrap/shawl but I didn't like it. I decided to make a jacket from the "fabric" I had already stitched to make the shawl. I added plain black as I didn't have any more of the gray fabric. I used pearl white Lumiere paint for the stenciling. I like the color but it's a bit stiff to stitch around. I used perle cotton in black and gray to do the stitching. I did herringbone stitch on binding at edges of neck
  • front and bottom. I have a blog post about the jacket with more info at colorfullydistracted.blogspot.com.

Q&A with Sylviaquilts

Nixxi asked:
This is so different. I love how you created something new from a project you weren't happy with. I really love the continuation of the stitching onto the black fabric - fantastic! What is the stencil please?
Sylviaquilts answered:
Thank you Nixxi. When I got all the pieces together it really need the extra stitching on the black to tie it all together. The stencil is one I designed, inspired by a damask style design in a copyright free book I had. I simplified the original design and then made it larger on my copier.
