I absolutely love little smocked dresses, they are so angelic to me. Sitting and sewing the smocking stitches by hand is pleasing to my soul. In my experience, most people think that smocking is hard, but it is actually very easy to do. The lines of the pleating threads guide your hand on exactly where to place the stitches. And the stitches are just easy little straight stitches taken through the edge of the pleats. I first started designing smocked doll dresses when my granddaughter Andrea was young and loving her American Girl Dolls. I wanted to make her something special that she could not buy anywhere. She has since grown out of her dolls and even graduated from college, but I am still sewing the pretty little dresses. Home crafters have permission to sew this design and sell it in craft shows or through websites such as Etsy.
