I love fabric! I love creating crafts, products, with fabric! I always wanted to create designs on fabric, and had experience with selling tabletop frames in our local store. In looking at fabric picture frames, I found that the fabric frames out on the market ...weren't fully functioning. So first, I developed a non washable photo frame with fabric covered mat board parts. Later, I decided that if they were to be truly sustainable, the frames had to be washable, so I reconfigured how I used Thermoweb fusible web, and figured a way to make the parts sewn, so that the whole frame was one piece, just parts sewn, making a pocket for the photo and protective sleeve. I saw that an acid free sheet protector cut slight larger than the photo worked fine. And the frame has 2 pockets on the back, one for the easel back board, and one for the strut leg board, for the boards to slide out. There are 2 button holes to hang the frame, horizontally or vertically, and all you need to do is use your zigzag stitch function on your machine, and use the narrowest stitch length, and widest stitch width on the machine. You'll use the Thermoweb, found in Michaels by the roll, use a 50% coupon to get a 5 yard roll for $5, or buy it at Joann's, AC Moore, etc - AND NOW, Thermoweb, through their site at thermowebonline.com, sells inkjet printable Featherlite or HeatNBond Lite double sided paper backed sheets called EZ Sheets, ten 8 1/2" x 11" sheets for $8- perfect for this project, as you will need 6 sheets worth! So you can print the patterns DIRECTLY onto those EZ Sheets by Thermoweb! The Thermoweb will be your patterns, and also helps keep the structure of the frame stiff and sturdy, helping the fabric from pulling, from puckering, even helping many non washable fabrics become washable, like satin, and keeps the frame's shape, after wash! There are still some that are not, so be careful selecting fabric- tip: if it singes to your iron, and is sensitive even with a clean cloth or pillowcase between the iron and fabric desired for the frame - don't wash it! I use Thermoweb's Ultrahold found in the stores mentioned, it is acid-free, slightly thicker, but fully workable. I've been sewing with it for 14 years. The ribbon joins the bottom right corners of both the easel back panel and strut leg pocket, to allow for the frame to stand up on a table or shelf. This frame is also great for upcycling neckties into frames as gifts! Great for Father's Day! Just cut up the tie, and iron the pieces, cut edges folded under, onto the front frame front border (front of the frame), pull the paper backing away, and iron down the flaps to other side, then sew inner and outer edge all 4 sides. Then use a solid or coordinating fabric for the remaining parts. I wouldn't use too thick a fabric, no thicker than bottom weight, or denim. If you use upholstery, just use it on the frame front border (front of the frame). Sew slow. Use a 3 length on your machine. This is also great as a wedding gift, too! Care instructions: take the photo, protective sleeve, 2 mat board slide out pieces, out place frame in a lingerie bag place in the wash on delicate or permanent press, cold water, mild detergent stand up on towel to dry, or, still in lingerie bag, place in dryer on low temp setting 15 minutes Great for using scraps from quilting, leftover fabric from crafts, home decorator fabric remnants, clothes with areas still salvagable, neckties, etc By the way, the photo featured is of President Clinton and my customer's late husband, whose neckties were cut up and repurposed into washable, sewn, fabric picture frames, at my customer's request. I did 15 frames for her. Then she had President Clinton, who is her family friend, sign the photos that went into the frames, and gave the frames as gifts to her family. I made sure that the top of the tie and bottom were showcased, when laying out the cut up necktie pieces.
