Cloth pads are both very comfortable and much better for the environment. And the bonus is, you can make them yourself, with some super easy-to-find recycled materials and a basic sewing machine. They're super cheap to make too ! This tutorial shows you how to make your own pads, with a lot of step-by-step pictures and detailed isntructions, as well as full patterns to make 2 SIZES of pads. You'll also be able to customize the absorbency of your pads by changing the number of layers on inside absorbent fabric. I like to choose really pretty fabrics to make my pads, so that having my period also is a "nice" time of the month: I get to use my beautiful pads ! ;-) Wearing those cloth pads really feels much better on your skin than the plastic disposable ones. I always smile while in the "disposable pads" alley of my local supermarket because that's something I know I'll never buy again !! Also included in the tutorial are tips on how to keep your pads looking pretty and unstained for years, and how to wash them.

Recommended with this pattern

  • a fat quarter of pretty fabric for outside layer
  • a basic sewing machine (straight stitch and zigzag stitch)
  • an old towel for the absorbent layer

Bonjour! I'm Sylvie Damey, french designer living in the french Alps. I learned to knit as a child, but taught myself to crochet a few years after my first daughter was born and I had started making things for her... Soon crochet completely took over knitting; crochet is so liberating and enpowering. I love to crochet clothes for my daughters or myself, always focusing on what I'd love to wear on a daily basis ... and what makes me happy ! :-) I'm a visual learner, so you'll find that I always add several in-progress pictures to my patterns so you always know what you're meant to do next.
