I can't be accused of being lazy when it comes to sewing for my kids. After all, they each have their own special fourth of July patchwork quilt. I am not a big fan of Halloween though, so they have had to get creative when it comes to costumes. This is a quick costume cape with pointed hood that you can make with one yard of fabric. For the full Hoodwinked effect, make a blue mini skirt out of an old adult sized blue tee shirt (just cut off the bottom of the shirt and add elastic to the cut edge.) Trim some bell bottomed jeans with 3" wide lace. And a plain tee shirt completes the look. Easiest and cutest costume ever! If you haven't seen Hoodwinked, check it out. You and your kids will love the movie. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Make a simple narrow hem (or a rolled hem on a serger) SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS One size fits all, 26" long play cape with pointed hood

Supplies Needed

  • 1 yard of fabric
  • Cutting mat and quilters ruler and rotary cutter
  • OR Hard work surface, ruler and chalk to mark lines, scissors

Like so many sewists I know, I have been sewing since the age of 6. I started at my mother's feet, fashioning her scraps into doll clothes. By age 16, I was spending Summers sewing my wardrobe for the coming school year. I was known as a creative dresser. I wrote my first sewing pattern in 2006 as part of applying for a patent. Now I have thousands of satisfied sewing pattern customers and am very happy to be part of the bourgeoning online sewing community. See books that feature my work and follow my various adventures on my blog. Find printed versions of several of my patterns in the current Simplicity Catalog.
