This elegant bag design allows a variety of options for combining colors and fabrics. The brown bag in this tutorial is made of three fabrics - two exterior, one lining plus vegan (faux) leather. The beige bag is made of only one exterior fabric, one lining fabric and vegan leather. You can skip the leather and make even more simple version with one exterior fabric and one lining fabric. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY You should already know how to use sewing machine. SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS The bag is 15 inches (38 cm) wide, 2 1/2 inches (6.5 cm) deep and 12 1/2 inches (32 cm) high. Handle drop is 9 inches (23 cm). Handles' length is adjustable and can be easily changed if desired when cutting the fabrics.

Recommended with this pattern

  • Fabrics (Option 2) if width is 44" or 140 cm for a simple version of the bag (one exterior fabric and one lining fabric, no vegan leather): - 1 yard (100 cm) exterior fabric - 2/3 yard (60 cm) lining fabric
  • For both bag options you'll also need: - matching threads - 1 magnetic snap - 1 decorative tassel 3-4" (8-10 cm) long with a loop - 12" (31,5 cm) piece of 1 1/4" (3 cm) or similar smaller width flat elastic band - 7" (18 cm) regular zipper for the inside pocket - 1/8 yard (10 cm) interfacing for the zipper and magnetic snap
  • - *optional* 14" (35 cm) of headliner (or Soft and Stable) if width is 54" or 140 cm for the body and the gusset exterior pieces if you want to add support and structure to your bag and to avoid the slouchy look. - *optional* 1/3 yard (30 cm) of fusible batting or alternative interfacing of your choice for the exterior pocket and the handles if your fabrics are of quilting weight.

Hi, my name is Maria and I'm from Bulgaria. I have an arts degree, majoring in fine art. I am mainly a painter and interior decorator, but I love sewing and designing. I've been sewing as long as I can remember. As a child dresses for my dolls, later clothes for me and my sister on my mom's sewing machine. I bought my first sewing machine more than 10 years ago. Last year I add an overlocking sewing machine to my home atelier. On Oct 27, 2009 I opened my online shop on Etsy called DELINDA BOUTIQUE which goes pretty well lately. I started selling pillow covers and art. Later I added bags and prints. Now I found Craftsy and I'm so happy to share my ideas here!
