Pattern Details

The Bring the Basics Bag is a very handy design, and it's quick and really fun to make! It came to be as really all my bags really where to heavy and warm to lug around in +40C temperatures here in Malta during the summer. Sometimes you need something small and convenient. The Bring the Basics Bag is just that, a small shoulder bag, clutch, wristlet or wallet, that will hold just the basic stuff you need to be able to leave the house. It comes in TWO SIZES, one for cellphones up to 6" long, and one for those up to 6 3/4" long. It has two separate cellphone pockets (holds up to 2 cellphones, 6" or 6 3/4" long denpending on the size you make), card slots, bill slot and a zipper pocket for coins and keys. It's easy, fun and quick to make, the perfect present! ---------------------------------------- BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY This is an excellent pattern for the confident beginner bag maker! The pattern has 40 color photos showing every step of making the bag, but basic sewing skills is required. MEASUREMENTS Finished small bag is 6" x 4" big. Finished large bag is 6 3/4" x 4 1/2" big. SUPPLIES NEEDED Fabric: 18” x 22” (a fat quarter) of cotton / vinyl / faux leather exterior fabric (this is a wrap around design so a non directional fabric is recommended). 18” x 22” (a fat quarter) of cotton lining fabric. 2” x desired length of wrist (~16”) or shoulder strap (~40”) fabric in a color matching the exterior. Interfacing: 7” x 12” heavy-weight interfacing such as Fast 2 Fuse Heavy or Pellon 71F Peltex. 7½” x 11” medium-weight, thin but stable, cardlike iron on interfacing to stabilize for button and zipper pocket like Vildona thin, Decovil I Light, Pellon Decor-bond, or Fast 2 Fuse Light. 2“ wide and equally long piece as your strap (~16” or ~40”) of lightweight interfacing (exclude if using heavy vinyl or sturdy faux leather). Notions: (1) 6” of ¾” wide elastic band. (2) Small swivel snap hooks (preferably with ½” wide opening). (1) 7” zipper for the small version or 8” zipper for the large version. (2) ½” wide D-rings. (1) Simple, flat snap button (no need for a fancy one, as you won’t see the top of it anyway). Rotary cutter, cutting mat & ruler.
