The history of the teddy bear has always fascinated me. When I saw the cartoon black bear cub by Clifford Berryman (Washington Post, November 1902), I wanted to design a bear that looked and felt just like the cartoon bear. I think I achieved my goal with 'Black Bear Cub 1902' and hope you like this little bear pattern. This pattern has the inset face, a cute little tail, and perky ears. With my simple pattern steps, an inset face can be easy and fun. I recommend Schulte mohair for the body, face, and paw pads. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY cut and sew bear limbs, head, and body SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS 8 inches x 10 inches x 6.5 inches standing on all fours

Recommended with this pattern

  • 1/4 yard of black mohair
  • 10" x 10" square of white bristle mohair
  • 5 locknut and bolt sets or cotterpins

My name is Ginger, and I began sketching and designing fashion styles when I was 5 years old, just like my mother and grandmother. Stick pins and lovely tan tissue paper were my favorite play items as a little brown haired girl, and still are today! Some ladies dream of Prince Charming, but I dream of a dressmaker form on a stand. From haute couture to pattern design, I truly love dressmaking and bearmaking. Hugs, Ginger Stockwell
