The autumn leaves quilt is stunningly beautiful with intricate overlapping curves. It looks like a complicated quilt but is really a very easy beginner quilt as you go project you can easily start and finish on the weekend. The autumn leaves quilt is a wholecloth quilt constructed in two parts to make sewing easier. Each half of the quilt consists of 4 large ovals sewn to the solid hunter green background. The inner pieces of the ovals are cut out carefully and repositioned in the center of the shape. Each oval and center of the oval has a cream flannel shape behind it to give dimension. The appliques are sewn with the fabric edges raw, exposed. They are designed to fray to the stitches, giving a textured, unaffected look to the quilt. The appliques and the quilting are done at the same time. After the quilting is complete, the two halves are sewn together, a border stripe is added and the quilt is entirely finished except for the binding of the edges. The binding is designed for speed and beauty, too. The cream flannel back of the quilt folds forward and is finished with handstitching. Every step in this quilt was planned to create the most beautiful quilt possible in the most efficient way possible.
