Q&A with stpaulknitter

Vi2LearnSewing asked:
Beautiful! How sumptuous to use Silk Dupioni. I have an older Silk suit I'd like to dye similarly. (Unsure of its lining content: poly; rayon; blend?) Base color is "golden" (seems nearly citron to me; slightly greenish in fluorescent light). I'd like to update suit with more flattering sandy-gold, textured effect-- a bit like your beauty! * Any ideas on how to do RTW garment dyeing? * Thanks for inspiring beauty, especially for those starting out!
stpaulknitter answered:
Hi - I've overdyed garments before, but learned that the topstitching didn't look good after dyeing since the polyester thread usually used did not take the dye. Started sewing over the topstitching with silk thread before dyeing the garment, then got a closer match to the overdye color. It still isn't a perfect match, ends up being a tonal effect with the lighter poly thread blending in with the dyed silk thread, but a pretty effect.
