UNM Lobo Tshirt Quilt

Project Description

What are you most proud of? The fact that my folk are so proud of it and have asked me to make another one to put into an auction/fundraiser for the scholarships they provide. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Make sure you stabalize the Tshirt w/ a knit stabilizer (Pellon is what I used)If you choose to use different size blocks as I did, be prepared to do a lot of math and mapping placement of blocks and fillers to square it all up.. I worked in rows. Remember to add the 1/2 inch for each seam, but subtract for your layout of quilt top.

What you will need

  • Tshirts
  • 100% cotton
  • prllon knit stabalizer

Q&A with tracydvr

Carisensei asked:
This is so much more interesting and nicely done than most tee shirt quilts. Really nice.
tracydvr answered:
Thank you
cityslic0 asked:
You're saying to use a 'knit' stabilizer, yet another quilter on Craftsy said to never use one for knits as it will pucker. Now I'm confused.
tracydvr answered:
That is what has worked for me... don't know what else to tell you. It may lay better with another stabilizer.
tomjosie7110099 asked:
Now I know what to do with the project ahead of me. Did you plan and perhaps purchase the additional colors for each block or did you use scraps?
tracydvr answered:
I'd been "stashing" FQs for awhile, some just scraps. I think the only fabric I purchased just for this quilt was the wolves. UNM didn't/doesn't have any collegiate fabrics. Since then I've made one with Girl Scout Tshirts using RK's GS Collection and others with just the school colors. It's all your choice.
Victoria Lujan asked:
I Love this! Would you be interested in making one and donating it to the UNM Alumni Homecoming Auction? This is so wonderful and unique and would help us raise valuable scholarship dollars?
tracydvr answered:
As matter of fact I started one for the Lobo Club about the time my Dad passed, in memory of my Mom... have put it away but will see if I can deal with the emotions and get it done for their auction next August. My folks earned the club's red blazers. Will let you know if I do... I'm a NMIMT grad.
