Union Jack Mug Rug

Project Description

What was your source for this quilting project? Online Photo or Website Name of website or photo Union Jack Mug Rug Link to website or photo What are you most proud of? How quick and easily the union jack came together. What advice would you give someone starting this project? There is only one little bit of seam matching - if you pin or tack in place you should be fine. The rest of this pattern requires you to sew along a straight line. The hardest part of this project will be choosing your fabrics unless you go for a traditional red, white and blue look. Enjoy and have fun.

Q&A with The Patchsmith

Lisa Gardner asked:
Love the Union Jack Mug Rug, your work is soo amazing!! I am going to start of the Mug and cupcake mug rug. I bought that pattern from your selection!
The Patchsmith answered:
You should like the tea and cake pattern - it has been made many times by many people and it always seems to turn out lovely. If I can help in any way just email me at
RachieLee asked:
I just love all of your mug rugs, they turn out so wonderful. Do you hand stitch your applique down or do you use a sewing machine?
The Patchsmith answered:
I use both. On this project I machine stitched the main part of the crown and hand stitched the jewels and the cross. Sometimes I just use one strand of cotton when hand stitching small pieces - this minimizes the impact of the stitching.
