True Lovers' Knot

Project Description

What was your source for this quilting project? Online Photo or Website Name of website or photo True Lover's Knot Link to website or photo tlc.howstuffworks.com/home/true-lovers-knot-quilt-block.htm What are you most proud of? How well it all came together! What advice would you give someone starting this project? The linked pattern is for two colors; I used three, and it made the piecing complicated enough so that I drew lots of colored diagrams to keep track of the pattern as I made the blocks. This is not a difficult quilt pattern, but it is important to take your time in the cutting and piecing so that all the lines meet correctly.

What you will need

  • Cotton fabrics for patchwork
  • backing and binding. 50% cotton/bamboo for batting.

Q&A with MDR

irwinshirl asked:
Where can I find the cutting instructions and fabric requirements for the quilt?
MDR answered:
You can follow the link above, which takes you here: http://tlc.howstuffworks.com/home/true-lovers-knot-quilt-block.htm. Unfortunately this doesn't include fabric requirements, so I had to Do Math to figure everything out.
Miss Barbara asked:
Very beautiful! You muat be an advanced quilter to be able to achieve such acuracy in your quilting. Congratulations on producing a true work of art. Miss Barbara
MDR answered:
I'm not that advanced, Miss Barbara,, but thanks for the compliment. My secret: careful measuring, and lots and lots of pins!
MDR asked:
Kimah72, I found the quilt block size by doing more math. I divided the width I wanted by 6 to find the size of the individual blocks (as in Photo #3). Then I counted the strips from the middle of the block (6) and divided the individual block size by the number of strips. It came out to 2" per strip, so I cut the strips 2 1/2 inches wide, for a queen-size quilt. The middle block is 2 1/2 x 2 1/5.
MDR answered:
The A, or middle, block is 2 1/2" by 2 1/2"

SharonO asked:
Hi MDR, Do you know what size your blocks turned out using the 2 1/2" wide strips?
MDR answered:
I honestly can't remember. Sorry!
