Your work is incredibly unique. How does working on silk differ from working on cotton? You've inspired me and I'd like to try a different fabric.
Quiltinjeni answered:
Hi! Thanks for the question! Silk is much smoother (at least the Radiance - cotton/silk blend is smoother). It has a greater shine (luminosity) and doesn't wick quite as much as 100% cotton. It dries a bit faster, but I cheat and iron the fabric as I paint to stop the bleed and set a color immediately. Really a phenomenal fabric to play with! I am looking forward to trying other silks too. Oh! This piece wasn't even the PFD either (Prepared For Dyeing). I did not prewash either. I am a rebel!

Hi, I have been look at some of your projects, especially the Rose ones. Is there a class you took that showed you how to do these. They are amazing, I can't figure out how you gave them such real texture? Thank you for such beautiful inspirations.
Quiltinjeni answered:
Thank you for the compliment! The texture comes from various things. A layer of wool batting on top of cotton gives the piece "puff" or a trapunto look. Various types of painting gives the quilt depth/movement and the quilting adds another layer of texture. I have learned I don't have to make the piece look like what is in my head I will never be able to recreate my imagination or reality! However, our brain only needs the suggestion of an image to "fill in the blanks" and make something appear more interesting. So give it a try! Pick something simple or organic (free form) to try that can't be "wrong" and see what happens. Let go use the force!!! :) Jennifer
