Project

The Cat in the Hat

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I was delighted to have been invited to participate in this fundraiser for one of my favorite museums, and was happy with how the quilt came out. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Give yourself permission to take a pattern and just play around with some different ideas and settings. Have a little fun with some unusual fabrics!

What you will need

  • I was invited to make a small Dr. Seuss quilt as a fundraiser for the Mingei Museum in Balboa Park in San Diego. We were asked to use Dr Seuss fabric in the quilt
  • and the quilt will be auctioned off at their 35th Anniversary celebration.

Q&A with Peggy Martin

lrmyr18 asked:
This is wonderful! There is a special place in my heart for anything Dr. Seuss as Theodore Geisel was from my hometown of Springfield Massachusetts. If you're ever in the area be sure to visit the sculptures dedicated to Dr. Seuss and his beloved characters. This quilt will make someone very happy!
Peggy Martin answered:
Theodore Geisel lived here in La Jolla, California after WWII until he passed away. His wife still lives here, and is active in the Mingei International Museum, so that was one of the connections as to why they chose a Dr. Seuss theme. If I'm ever in Springfield, Massachusetts, I'll be sure to look for the sculptures!
