Stash inspiration

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I like the color combinations. I also managed to use lots of scraps. What advice would you give someone starting this project? I did not measure enough, so the strips ended up being misaligned - different widths of strips would have been more fun, plus the alignment would not be an issue at all! Next time...

What you will need

  • Quilting cottons
  • organic cotton batting and "Ohfransson!" and Craftsy inspiration.

Q&A with Eva Blue

Grumpet asked:
I love this colour combination. It looks really grand with this head board too.
Eva Blue answered:
Thank you!
wiskers28 asked:
I looks absolutely beautiful, I love the colour combination, very clever
Eva Blue answered:
Thank you Whiskers - I have cut too many strips and is busy using the left-overs for a second quilt in the same colour scheme. A bit boring, but the experience will teach what works and what doesn't...
Daston47 asked:
I love the colors. How big are the squares?
Eva Blue answered:
Hi, I cut the strips 8x2.5 inches. I trimmed the strips after piecing them, for a finished size of 7x2 inches. This allows for for 1/4 seam allowances and 1/2 inch trimming. The trimming was necessary because my piecing is not perfect. The sashing was also cut at 2.5 inches, this then gave the same width as the finished strips. I picked the dimensions purely because I liked the balance between the length & width. The strips were pieced until it matched the length of the bed plus some overhang. The fished quilt measures 80x90 inches. The border was cut by dividing the leftover grey fabric into four strips (no science here!).
DeGramma asked:
Lovely use of fabrics and color selection, really love your quilt, very nice. What a wonderful use of lots of scraps, I need to do this too... thanks for sharing. Do you do your own quilting?
Eva Blue answered:
Hi, Thank you! I tried doing a full quilt on my domestic sewing machine once, it was ... difficult! I managed the borders ok, but doing nice patterns on the main area proved to be a challenge and it took the joy out of it. So i found a nice quilter with a BIG frame, and she does a superb job. I'll post another quilt in the same colours soon. Somehow I cut way too many strips (for this quilt) and promised myself to use these strips before proceeding to the next quilt. The second project grew into a full size quilt. Watch this space.
GreenRoo asked:
