Stars & Stitches microwaveable bowl cozy

This is just a cute little cozy that can go into the microwave when heating up a bowl of something yummy, so you don't burn your hands taking it out. I learned how (it's EASY! Even for a newbie like me! Just a few straight seams, darts, topstitching, & a bit of quilting...) in a project class at my friend's craft shop, but there are TONS of tutorial's on YouTube. They're sold online, too, but why pay someone else when a few scraps from your stash can work up quickly into a custom-made reversible item in whatever theme you like? I chose patriotic fabrics for the summer holidays in the U.S. to make this first one, but anything will work, as long as the fabric, thread AND batting all are 100% cotton, since polyester will melt in the microwave (!) My first effort was not perfectly square, but it turned out to be just the right shape/size for those oblong frozen dinner containers, plus works fine for a regular bowl, too. 10" squares from a pre-cut "layer cake" ought to work great as well. I hope to make more for each season and for gifts.
