Stars In The Sand - Fiber Wall Art

Project Description

What are you most proud of? This piece has good balance and I love these colors. The fabric in the embellishments is from Moda's Basic Gray collection. I must admit I have this in almost every color they made. Each of the copper embellishments was hammered and then punched and hand sewn in place over the inchies. I quilted the whole back ground prior to adding the embellishments. I also sew on all parts to the top fabric and interfacing (thick kind like you would use in a handbag) prior to putting on the back and doing the quilting. This way the back of the piece is a lot neater. What advice would you give someone starting this project? I always do a simple sketch first and then lay out all the sections and take photos of different layouts prior to sewing in place. I view the different versions on my computer to see which is more pleasing. I think of fiber art of this type like an abstract painting and squint my eyes to see how it will look from a distance. It's easy to get carried away and add too much - when I'm not sure if I've gone too far I let it sit over night and I usually see it fresh the next day and know exactly what to do.
