Scraps and FMQ practice mug rugs

Project Description

What are you most proud of? Just playing around with my scraps and practicing my FMQ, I decided to make personalized mug rugs for some of my coworkers. I think they will like them :-) :-) What advice would you give someone starting this project? These are a lot of fun to do, and come together quickly. This is the perfect chance to get creative and surprise someone with a home made, heart felt gift.

What you will need

  • Cotton fabric scraps and leftover batting. Trilobal polyester and cotton threads

Q&A with QuiltDude

desna asked:
Super cute mug rugs and I agree they are a great way to practice new skills like fmq and appliqu which I also love.
QuiltDude answered:
Hi, Desna! I really did enjoy making these. Ooh, applique'... I am not a fan of it. I tried, but it was not my thing. LOL
ChefChris asked:
What a great way to practice quilting, and use up some stash. These would make nice gifts, too!
QuiltDude answered:
Hi, Chef Chris! Well, the coworkers I did give them to seemed to really enjoy and appreciate them, the ones I didn't give anything all piped up, "I want one too!" LOL Back to the sewing machine I go!
Nana C asked:
Love this idea, and I need to practice FMQ thanks for sharing!
QuiltDude answered:
You are welcome, Nana C. These are fun, fast and easy. I make a quilt sandwich about 7 by 9 inches, then FMQ away and trim down to 6 by 8 inches, then bind. 6X8 seems to be a good size mug rug
puggle asked:
Wow! your quilting is incredible
QuiltDude answered:
Thanks Puggle. Even after years of doing FMQ, I still consider it "practicing", because there is always room for improvement [for me at least].
bartolli asked:
I just went through some of your projects, I love them all. You got tons of creative ideas that I adore.
QuiltDude answered:
Thank you, Bartolli. Those are very nice words! :-) :-) :-)
