Scrappy Rails Quilt

What you will need

  • This quilt was made from a kit - "Tonga Treats - Scrappy Rails" designed by Relatively Creative from Timeless Treasures. I had not used a kit before and wanted to try one out. Recent edit: I bought the kit on Craftsy! The finished size is smaller than suggested because my seam allowances were a true 1/4" rather than scant. The final size is about 51" by 37". I also misread the directions so instead of a border the width of the sides of the squares
  • I have a small border - but it's OK! I used standard quilting materials as well as the fabric that came in the kit which consisted of 40 strips of fabric - 2 and 1/2" wide. Separately
  • I purchased my backing material and batting. I quilted it by stitching in the ditch of the main seams and am also still stitching in the ditches of each square.

Hello Marie. I have also ordered this quilt kit and I only hope mine turns out as fantastic as yours! I am new to quilting, but so far I love it. Thanks for showing your quilt. You have inspired me to get busy!
Marie Withrow answered:
Well thanks! Good luck to you. I started with small quilting projects and this was my largest to date and went very smoothly. Be sure to make a space where you can arrange and re-arrange the blocks until you like the overall look. I use a large piece of white flannel and it works very well! Taking a digital picture helps too as things pop out that look "off". Hope you post when finished!!
Carol Snell asked:
Do you have pictures of instructions. I have pattern but don't understand.
Marie Withrow answered:
Sorry, I do not understand your request. Feel free to ask a question here, perhaps I can help!
