Project

Ruby Beach

What are you most proud of? This was my first attempt of a photo-inspired art quilt and it was also juried in the Northwest Quilting Expo in Portland, OR. Although it did not win an award, it was exciting and very humbling to have one of my pieces hanging among some very creative artists! What advice would you give someone starting this project? It looks a little overwhelming at first, but if you begin by looking to the background of your photo and begin to layout your fabric choices from there and gradually work your way to the foreground, it becomes very gratifying.

You Can Make This

merry o made Ruby Beach with:

  • Cotton fabrics and various thread types
  • pellon for foundation
  • craft glue

Q&A with merry o

Wendy Lee asked:
I like your "fussy-cutting. I also love to get a photo and make a wall quilt. Beautiful work!
merry o answered:
This piece was a lot of work with all the detail, but so much fun to watch it develop!
