Recyled Jean Clutch

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I like that most of the materials are recycled and I like the front pocket. What advice would you give someone starting this project? I should have done a better job of measuring the front as I sewed the pieces together - I kind of winged it... so, the pocket is not quite centered. My husband said it made it look more hand made - so I'm sticking with that

What you will need

  • Fabric book scraps
  • old pair of blue jeans
  • cotton fabric from old curtains
  • cotton batting
  • 3 small buttons
  • basic sewing materials
  • 9" blue zipper.

Q&A with Marie Withrow

crochetmutti asked:
That is great! I have a lot of sample books and was looking for more ideas!
Marie Withrow answered:
Thank you! That book sat a while! It was really the type of fabric that gave me the inspiration - when I bought it I just knew something could be done with all that fabric!! Good luck!
Zelda15 asked:
this is so cute, thanks for sharing. I want to make one now. Just wondering if you used all denim fabric? Or did you use some cotton? Great job!!
Marie Withrow answered:
Thank you! The back, pocket and a couple of the small pieces are denim from my jeans. The other pieces that were cut from the samples book were all cotton. I'm not sure I would know if any of those were denim. In fact, I need to look up the difference!
gisela622 asked:
wow, u did it again.......I love all of ur designs ..............thanks for the inspiration and sharing....................
Marie Withrow answered:
Saw your question about sample books below. I think some thrift stores might have them, and then furniture stores that get in new lines - I don't know what they do with those but perhaps it's worth asking. I happen to get mine at a local store that sells a variety of things and the owner had too many and decided to throw them in with other fabric for $2.00 each!
jycher96 asked:
Marie, can you share the patterns and instructions?
Marie Withrow answered:
Yes. Sorry, the source used to be in another section that was deleted when Craftsy updated the look & feel of this section. Anyway- the basic instructions are in Modern Log Cabin Quilting: 25 Simple Quilts and Patchwork Projects on p. 135. I did not use that pattern for this - just cut scraps and a center piece to fit the same size of the front piece and continued accordingly. My local library has a copy and Amazon sells it for about $16.00. Hope that helps!
Maineycook asked:
Where do I get the pattern for the recycled Jean purse
Marie Withrow answered:
Please see the question above in August 2014 which I answered by giving the book that I got the basic directions in - most libraries would have a copy I think or it can be ordered online. Hope that helps!
