Rainbow of Hearts, Stars & Diamonds

Project Description

What was your source for this quilting project? Online Photo or Website Name of website or photo Disappearing nine patch by TeresaDownUnder Link to website or photo www.craftsy.com/project/view/Disappearing-nine-patch-quilt/26134 What are you most proud of? That she loved it - she straight away took it to her room and put it on her bed and just sat on it looking at all the shapes! What advice would you give someone starting this project? Looks way more complicated than it actually is! Just try not to have too tight a deadline - finished this at 4am this morning and her party was at 10am - way too close! :)

What you will need

  • batting and threads

Q&A with VicMansfield

Bonnie Wilson asked:
I love this. I like how the colored squares seem to float and all of the different stitches you used. I'm just learning free motion quilting and this gives me some good ideas! What kind of thread do you use?
VicMansfield answered:
For the free motion sunflowers I used a varigated Superior Threads King Tutt thread. They are so beautiful!! If you want some good tips on free motion go to this link on you tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThoN3xA3-10 Leah Day has heaps of examples of different motifs!
Jenya asked:
Oh this is beautiful :) I too would have put it strait on my bed and played with all the shapes :) What a thoughtful pressie :) Congrats :)
VicMansfield answered:
Thanks Jenya - I've decided that the next things I make are going to be all for me though!! I want something too :) LOL

Thanks - always good to smile!! :):):)
CCG asked:
Wow - I just love your quilt! Your quilting motifs inspire me ...I really have to learn how to do that.
VicMansfield answered:
Thanks - appreciate your comments, these 2 are the largest quilted things I have made so far, I've only done small things previously and I am loving experimenting with free motion quilting, it takes a lot of practice! I highly recommend doing one of the Wendy Butler Berns quilting courses here on Craftsy! They really help to build your confidence! :)
