Rainbow in Pineapple

Project Description

What are you most proud of? The bright colors! And, that I did the piecework while I was recovering from having my wisdom teeth removed :) What advice would you give someone starting this project? lay out your colors in advance, and do all of your rotary cutting first... it helps you get into a 'sewing' groove!

What you will need

  • 100% cotton fabric
  • various colors

Q&A with Stacey Trock

CarolynWainscot asked:
did you paper piece this? it is very nice
Stacey Trock answered:
Nope, no paper piecing! I put a guideline on my sewing machine, so I was always piecing at a half inch :)
DeGramma asked:
This is really a lovely project! Looks very difficult though, was it very hard? Love the colors against the white!
Stacey Trock answered:
It actually isn't as hard as it looks... the block itself is pretty simple (you can see an example of one on this site: http://quiltyindulgence.blogspot.com/2009/06/scrappy-pineapple-quilt-blocks.html), and it's about piecing the blocks with the right color pattern, so that when they're put together, they make the 'star' pattern... maybe this is going to have to turn into a mini tutorial :)
cottagequilter asked:
Where can I locate the pattern
Stacey Trock answered:
hey! Check the comments below for pattern info
Thread Hot Mama asked:
You did a beautiful job with this! You said that you did not paper piece it but when I went to the URL you gave, the pattern she gave was a paper pieced pattern. Now I'm confused! Of course I know pineapple blocks can be done without paper piecing but I want to know how YOU did it because your wall hanging is so beautiful. Also, are your blocks 6" blocks? That's what the blocks she gave a pattern for are. I had my wisdom teeth out a long time ago so I need help, lol.
Stacey Trock answered:
I'm not a quilting expert... so maybe I'm not up on the terms :) The tutorial I linked to was just an example- because I made this years ago. I just cut 1" wide strips with my rotary cutter and sewed!
