Rag Quilt

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I used up some of my scrap stash! What advice would you give someone starting this project? Easy to do and very forgiving.

What you will need

  • 5 1/2" fabric squares & 4 1/2" batting squares

nwdragonfly asked:
Very cute! What type of fabric did you use? I've got lots of cotton flannel cut and I'm about to make my first rag quilt, but I was wondering if they can be made with other fabrics
jhof50519 answered:
I used 100% cotton gingham. It is the first rag quilt I have made but I do believe flannel is good. Try googling Rag Quilts made from (insert your chosen fabric here). :)
Lalau asked:
How do you get the ruffly look of the edges?
jhof50519 answered:
Snip the seams every 1/2inch (be careful not to cut into the stitching) then wash in the washing machine :)

I just cut out the fabrics for a flannel rag lap quilt for my mother who is in assisted living. I used plain and print to intermingle and plain for the back with a cheap flannel for the inside instead of batting. I previously made my great grandson a rag quilt and he loves it.
jhof50519 answered:
Love making the rag quilts and was thinking about making one with flannel inside so it is a little lighter, you've just talked me into doing it - thanks :)
ladyhawkna asked:
I'm confused. Are there instructions? I cant find them?
jhof50519 answered:
Scroll back through the comments ladyhawkna - and the best thing to do in google videos for Rag Quilts - that is what I did to understand how to make them. :)

Hi join what sort of backing do you have on your quilt by the way I love it and I've only just started at sewing lol
jhof50519 answered:
I used whatever white background fabric I had from leftover quilts - as long as the prints have similar colours.
