Quilt as you go Pinwheel

Project Description

What are you most proud of? That it looks so good all finished, and that I was able to adapt the technique to include the sashing strips. What advice would you give someone starting this project? There is a LOT of hand sewing to complete the blocks, but it is so easy to take squares anywhere - I did most of my finishing at work, on my breaks. Other than that, when you are done - YOU ARE DONE! It is quite exciting to have the quilting done as you sew.

What you will need

  • Other than the rust sashing and borders
  • the bulk of the fabrics were from an estate sale.

Q&A with hobbyhorse

This is a beautiful quilt. I quilt as I go, but I do this on my regular sewing, using 12"X12" blocks, which are quilted as they are pieced. My hands are usually in pain, so I let the sewing machine do most of the work. I think this type of quilting goes much faster. Can your pattern be adapted for this type of work?
hobbyhorse answered:
I am sure it could be adapted. The hand sewing was blind stitching the 'facing' that enclosed the seams, but if you were careful, and didn't mind your stitches showing front and back, you could just as easily use a machine. As I am thinking about it, you might even be able to use your blind hem feature, it would just take some juggling. Where there's a will, there's a way! :))
