What advice would you give someone starting this project? QAYG is a great way to try out quilting! You complete each individual block and then attach them together on the front and back with sashing. It makes working with a large quilt MUCH easier than trying to quilt the entire quilt top at the end. Because there are sashing pieces between each block, I like to use a traditional Log Cabin block. This helps blend the blocks and sashing. For my first QAYG quilt, I used scraps and it turned out awesome. To make it work, I used the same fabric for the block centers and sashing. That helped pull the scraps together into carefully controlled chaos--instead of just a jumble of colors/prints.
