Pretty in Purple? Mauve?

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I haven't lost touch with the embroidery side of my Bernina 830! What advice would you give someone starting this project? Think about how much fabric you will need to hoop & plan your purchase accordingly. If you are going to use the small files I think you could get away with 5 strips of the background & backing fabric but should probably get enough for 6 strips just in case. I thought I was going to use the large emb. files & the jumbo hoop but changed my mind & went with the smaller files & the mega hoop. Sooo, I have quit a bit of leftover fabric of the background & backing fabric (a totally busy Laurel Burch butterfly print). I used the mega hoop because it is quite long & I could get 2 patterns done in one hooping.

What you will need

  • Cotton fabrics
  • Isacord thread

Q&A with Darns

DonaH asked:
Very nice. Maybe someday, when I am retired, I will buy a machine that can do embroidery stitches!
Darns answered:
Embroidery machines are lots of fun. I bought mine a couple of years before I retired so I could get it paid for before retiring, Then you discover that you need/want many pretty thread colors and all kinds of stabilizers. I've tried embroidery on towels, T-shirts, quilting cottons, pot holders, etc. Way too much fun!
linynp asked:
It came out exquisite ! Love the pattern coloring and texture. Was it long /difficult? It's lovely. (lucky you an 830! I love my 630:) )
Darns answered:
Thanks, linynp! The actual embroidery/quilting stitching for each pattern doesn't take long - about 10 minutes. I found it more difficult to line up the long strips when sewing them together - had to find a consistent spot to use to align them from strip to strip. Bernina does make great machines, don't they?
