Portraits

Project Description

What was your source for this quilting project? Online Photo or Website Name of website or photo The Quilter's Yearbook Link to website or photo www.amybradleydesigns.com/abd187.html What are you most proud of? Capturing the essence of my mom (and me). I've never done any sort of art quilting - although I do a lot of free-motion - it was more therapy than anything. I think that is what helped me overcome my fear. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Just do it. It's supposed to be funny - you really can't screw it up. When my friend started to work on her daughter's portrait, she was terrified - but it really looks like her. You'll figure things out and improve with each one you make. And I wrapped these around a 12"x12" artist's canvas, I didn't want it to look like a quilt (bound) - to me, it's art and should be treated like that.

What you will need

  • quilting fabric
  • fusible webbing
  • and lots of thread.

Q&A with Ms. Elaineous

Tandunn asked:
I absolutely LOVE this!!! you are clever - I am going to give this a try. As you said it is supposed to be funny. That is such a powerful emotion - fun, laughter and happiness.
Ms. Elaineous answered:
I used Heat n Bond Lite and found that it worked best. A fusible that is too heavy makes the faces stiff. Good luck!
