Pauline's Special Birthday Quilt

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I love that my sister was the recipient of this project. She turned 60 and has done it tough in her life. But she has made it through and has lovely friends and a great partner. They are into everything and always out and about. She has a good life now. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Just relax and sit back with a coffee. This project evolved as it went along, I am amazed that I ended up with a lovely quilt from an experiment I had a go at many years ago. Just goes to show there is a use for any whimsical piece of sewing you start.

What you will need

  • I used scraps of fabric from so many other projects that I had made. Polyester wadding (won't use that again) and an old sheet for the back (prefer flannelette because it doesn't slip) I did a U tube tutorial on a paper piece block and started making the squares many years ago. They were sitting in a bag tucked away in my stash cupboard just waiting for the right project to put them into. I had so many trips down memory lane making this quilt because there were fabrics in it that reminded me of other projects that I had made and given to family and friends. As I was setting them out on the floor
  • my son came along and said they looked a bit like a stained glass window. Therefore I found (in my stash) a piece of fabric for one of the borders that had lots of colour in it but also had a stained glass look to it. I thought this would have taken up quite a lot of fabric from my stash but it hardly made a dent!!!! I didn't need to buy anything for this project
  • I had it already. That was a bonus!!!
