Patchwork Cushion

Project Description

What are you most proud of? Finally being able to make wild geese blocks... I tried various ways of making them and the easiest and (I think) the best way is found on About.com Quilting by Janet Wickell. http://quilting.about.com/od/quiltpatternsprojects/ss/No-Waste-Flying-Geese-Quilt-Pattern.htm I am also pleased that I have both the duvet and the scatter cushion all ready and waiting for Lou and Louie to return home from holidays tomorrow as a surprise:) What advice would you give someone starting this project? Try something new and challenge yourself, it is so much fun when it turns out ok:) Oh and make sure you research it well to know what you are doing as I wasted so much time and fabric. It took me three attempts to get the right size for the wild geese, I was nearly loosing the will to continue! I can't believe I am writing this but I am going to make more cushions using the wild geese pattern:)

What you will need

  • Cotton Fabric
  • cotton thread
  • old shirt

Q&A with desna

Pamillia asked:
I really like your cushion, It is beautiful with the duvet. They will be very pleased. You did really well on both. Thank you for sharing.
desna answered:
The 2 Lou's are really pleased and now want me to make curtains!!!
Pam Sews asked:
They look great together! You can also make flying geese by cutting two squares (for the "sky") and a rectangle twice as wide as the square. Lay the squares side by side on top of the rectangle , right sides together (RST) and stitch from the lower corners of the squares diagonally up to the top center of the rectangle. Trim away the outside halfs of the squares and rectangle leaving a 1/4" seam. Press open! (if you don't want to lose the trimmed away parts, before cutting just stitch a second seam 1/2" away from the first and cut between the stitching lines. You will end up with two extra, much smaller Half Squares for some other project.) I like your branching out and the results!!
desna answered:
