Opera Tee Shirt Quilt

Project Description

What are you most proud of? The overall design and color combinations of this quilt. The self-discovery and liberating process in learning free-motion quilting techniques. Finding design inspiration in my immediate surroundings. What advice would you give someone starting this project? As Wendy advises, practice on some sample "sandwich" (top-batting-backing) squares to find your own personal rhythm and stitch consistency. Keep reviewing classes. Every time I do this I discover some helpful tip I've forgotten about. Invest in high quality thread!!! I learned that lesson the hard way when using old, cheap thread I had on hand because the color matched what I was doing on a particular block. Lots of resulting picking out ensued. Everything went better when I returned to a higher quality of thread. Now I know better.

What you will need

  • Various tee-shirts from opera productions my daughter has performed in. Cotton printed fabric for borders and cotton batik printed fabric for backing. Fusible interfacing for stabilizing tee-shirt knit fabric and a cotton/poly blend batting.

Q&A with CatzSop

CatzSop asked:

CatzSop answered:
I'm now officially finished with this project and ready to present it to my opera singer daughter!
