Not your average "quilt in a day"

Project Description

What was your source for this quilting project? Other What advice would you give someone starting this project? stick with material you know for the first time around...there are lots of biased edges that can get stretched out very easily...keep an eye on that, as the borders will end up being wavy, just by virtue of the fact that much of the side you are sewing the borders on to is cut on the bias.

What you will need

  • Someone gave me 4 rubbermaid containers FULL of all different kinds of material. I found these pieces among the stash and started out...I believe some of it may be rayon? whatever the polka dots are
  • it's got a bit of stretch and lots of give in it...I think I might do this one again with pure cotton
  • or starch as I go.

Q&A with sharmacdonald

Ladymax asked:
You may not have known what type of fabric you had, but this block turned out beautifully. I don't think I have ever seen this block before. Is it your own pattern.
sharmacdonald answered:
hi, Ladymax, sorry it took so long to reply...no, it's not my own pattern. I bought a book called "Day and Night" and it basically only had ONE pattern done a couple of different ways. I loved the look, but it was more work than i care to put into a quilt right now. I gave the book and ruler to my friend. It starts out with 2 2inch strips and one 4 inch...you can do it with only 2 different (must be opposite to get the effect) colors (you can add 3, as I did, but, 2 look just as good)
