Project Description

What are you most proud of? This is not finished yet - but I just couldn't wait to post a picture of my work in progress. I think a hat or something in the hair is needed; perhaps something on a lapel and most definitely some jewellery! What advice would you give someone starting this project? Sign up for Carol Ann Waugh's class "Snazzy Stitched Portraits" - so satisfying and such fun!

What you will need

  • Cotton fabric
  • Bondaweb (same as Wonderunder!)
  • cotton and polyester threads
  • bits of old clothes
  • acrylic yarn for hair so far (will add some jewellery and other embellishments soon). I also still have to back and quilt the project.

Q&A with patz in suffolk

Not Amuzed asked:
How cute! I love it.
patz in suffolk answered:
Thank you! I'm having such a lot of fun doing this!
Carol Ann Waugh asked:
Wow! Your hair is spectacular! How did you attach it? Can't wait to see it finished.
patz in suffolk answered:
Thank you! The "hair" is merely acrylic double knitting yarn. I wrapped it around a card and cut it along one side to make a sort of fringe.. I then (having listened faithfully to your good advice) put some tracing paper on top and machined along it with matching thread and a long machine stitch. I then arranged some of it on top of the head and machined it on (as you demonstrated with the wool roving). Another layer followed and I finished by giving her a haircut! It's not what I really wanted to do, but not having any roving and being far too impatient to order some off the internet and wait for it to arrive, I improvised. I think she needs a hat or a bow or something to cover up the top bit of the hair, where it's sewn on, as the sewing is a bit obvious. Thank you so much for this course - I'm thoroughly enjoying myself!
Caraline2 asked:
oh this is soo cool pat, looks like you have had fun doing this one.
patz in suffolk answered:
Thank you Caraline! The fun isn't finished yet ...

Drop everything and get started! It's so satisfying! Thank you for your kind comment.
klh asked:
very cool - can't wait to see her with the additional embellishments you're planning - love her expression!
patz in suffolk answered:
Thank you! I tried to make her look like me, but something seems to have gone wrong - she's much prettier than I am!
