Night-time Owl Mug Rug

Project Description

What was your source for this quilting project? Online Photo or Website Name of website or photo Two Owls Mug Rug Link to website or photo www.craftsy.com/pattern/quilting/home-decor/two-owls-mug-rug/36175 What are you most proud of? The night-time version is all hand stitched. I love that when I quilted either side of the branch it puffed the branch up a little to make it look rounded. I also love the little bird in the nest. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Take your time when placing the pieces for the applique. I appliqued the owl bodies, flowers and leaves initially (tucking the feet under the bodies). Once these were stitched in place I then appliqued all the little details (wings, beaks, eyes, bird nest, etc). I placed the full-size applique sheet next to the mug rug on the ironing board to make sure I got everything in the right place. You could add all sorts of details - sequins, braid, ribbon. Whatever takes your fancy. Just remember though that a mug will sit on top and you don't want it to be unsteady.

What you will need

  • Aside from back and wadding largest piece is 9" x 3.5". Most are from my scrap box.

Q&A with The Patchsmith

Gerrich asked:
How do I purchase this? Just love it!
The Patchsmith answered:
Hi Gerrich, just click on the 'Two Owls Mug Rug" highlighted in orange up by the 'Pattern Info' and it will take you through to the pattern. Then you can buy it from there. There is a page on my blog about downloading from Craftsy (http://thepatchsmith.blogspot.co.uk/p/downloading-from-craftsy.html

Very cute
The Patchsmith answered:
Thank you - it is one of my most popular patterns. The owl would also sit very nicely on a coaster if you wanted something a little smaller than a mug rug.
