Project

New York Beauty, Fern Glade

What are you most proud of? I love how these fabrics worked together. This is one of the first quilts that I have done with just batik fabrics. I generally work with brights, but it is fun for me to sometimes do a quilt in all cool colors, like this one. It makes for a very calm, relaxing quilt despite all those sharp points. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Watch me demonstrate in the video how to do the Quick-Strip Paper Piecing and different options for the curved piecing in the New York Beauty lessons to make the top. For the machine quilting, just go for it, and practice, practice, practice!! I'm still working on improving my own machine quilting! Be sure to check out the wonderful machine quilting classes here on Craftsy for inspiration and information.

Q&A with Peggy Martin

SewsYourMother asked:
Love it, Peggy. I am currently piecing Dreamweaver in batiks also. I love those fabrics. Can't wait to tackle the New York Beauty. Your class has demystified paper piecing for me. Thank you so much!
Peggy Martin answered:
I'm so glad that you are enjoying the class! I'm looking forward to seeing your projects.
LoisAnn asked:
What a beautiful quilt! Did you make it for someone special? I have learned so much from you! I appreciate you sharing your craftsmanship. Will you be doing more classes for Craftsy?
Peggy Martin answered:
Thanks! I actually made this wall quilt as a class sample - I wish I had made a larger one, because I love those fabrics, too!. I'm glad that you enjoyed the class. So far no plans are in the works for another one, but I'll certainly keep it in mind.
stylistdn65@yahoo.com asked:
Peggy I sure hope you plan on doing another class with more wonderful patterns !! I love paper piecing and you showed me how and I thank you !! Please do another class !!! Tks Darlene
Peggy Martin answered:
Thanks for all the kind words! So far there are no plans for another class, but it could certainly happen in the future.
babeyruth asked:
beautiful colors!!!
Peggy Martin answered:
Thanks! I really love batiks, and these colors - the turquoises, blues and purples really spoke to me, and I knew I had to make a quilt with them.
