Nelson's Quilt

What was your inspiration? I'm making the kaleidoscope quilt from this class, but that means there are bits left over that are too good to throw away. I decided to use some of them to make the outer border for this little quilt, using a sew-and-flip method to cover a piece of lightweight interfacing. Good way to use up leftovers.

Q&A with patchedpastor

fatquiver asked:
Do you have a link to a favorite tutorial on how to do the sew and flip scrappy border? Trying to figure it out just from picture, but I'm stumped.
patchedpastor answered:
This is a tutorial on the basic sew and flip method of crazy piecing, which is what this is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZoVAMTVwdo Because this is a long skinny piece, I started at one end, and worked my way to the other end. What makes it look "complicated" is that the pieces I used were themselves made from strips; they were the scraps left over from cutting triangles from the strippy fabric.
