Natures Harmony

Project Description

What was your source for this quilting project? Online Photo or Website Name of website or photo Shadowplay by Hoffman (free pattern) Link to website or photo www.hoffmanfabrics.com/content/content-f What are you most proud of? This is the first time I have deliberately mixed batik fabric with screened or printed cotton fabric. I like the way they interact with each. The screened fabric is very detailed, while the batik is saturated with color. They work well together. What advice would you give someone starting this project? I simplified this pattern by removing almost all of the sashing between blocks. I found this pattern to be very sensitive to fabric selection. I advise you to have a big stash of fabric or something like the Jinny Beyer portable palette so you can get the right harmonious mix of fabrics. Also two warnings. When you are combining two HIGHLY directional fabrics in a half square triangle, be sure you have the orientation correct when sewing them together. One should be a right angles to the other when you are sewing them together, so the orientation will be correct when you press the HST open (see photo.) The second warning is if you use the Celedon Shadowplay fabric called for in the pattern, which is highly directional, and follow the revised directions in the link, one HST will be noticeably sideways instead of up and down. Buy one yard of fabric of the Celedon if you want all the orientations the same. I have included some photos of my work in progress on the design wall so you can see how my fabric selections changed/progressed as I went along.
