Makena's Baby Quilt

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I used a platinum cotton thread and echoed the large floral motif through out the quilt. The thread blended beautifully in all the blocks and stood out on the dark purple which helped the dark purple blend with the rest of the fabrics. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Just have fun!

What you will need

  • I did not sew this
  • her grandmother did
  • I only quilted it.

Q&A with Applekrisp

patz in suffolk asked:
Beautiful quilt for a beautiful little girl! Love the colours!
Applekrisp answered:
Thanks Patz!
K Lee 2Strings asked:
Very sweet little quilt! Isn't it fun to get people started on doing something new?
Applekrisp answered:
I was so excited for her to get going on this! The most rewarding part for me was to see her just beaming because she had created it and then to see them all together in the photo. It's her first grandchild and she must have sewn up about 50 baby cute.
Badgersue asked:
Beautiful quilt - what did you use for the quilting design, is it a stippling?
Applekrisp answered:
Thank you, what I did was replicate that large floral you see in the gray fabric, I did kind of a sea wave and then petals around it, it worked very well and gave a lacy effect on the dark purple bits, while blending into the rest of the quilt.
TerryChase asked:
Thank you for sharing your family as well as your beautiful quilt.
Applekrisp answered:
Thanks's funny, they are not my family, but a co-worker...and although we are not related, mommy and baby have our same last name! Maybe back up the tree a bit.
Wazoo Sue asked:
Nice job! What frame are you using with your machine? My sister wants to get one. Thanks.
Applekrisp answered:
Sue, I am using a Handi Quilter Frame that I purchased many years ago, it's great for small quilts. I don't know if they still sell them, sometimes you can pick them up used. Here is a link to my Flickr site, which shows how it is set up.
