Luna Notte Rag Quilt

Project Description

What are you most proud of? This is the first rag quilt I made. Everyone who saw it in person just fell in love with it. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Rag quilts are one of the easier quilts for beginners and are more forgiving if you don't get your seams matched up perfectly. Charm packs make a really good alternative to cutting all those squares for the front and are the perfect size for baby quilts. Just jump in there and create beautiful things for your friends and family.

What you will need

  • Three Luna Notte charm packs from MODA
  • quilter's cotton flannel
  • Warm and Natural batting
  • mercerized cotton quilting thread

Q&A with angela21080

Caroline asked:
Congratulations for a very beautiful rag quilt! so I could use cotton for a rag quilt? I thought it doesn't fray as much as flannel. What did you use for the backing? quilters cotton flannel? I never heard of it before until now :)
angela21080 answered:
Thanks Caroline. I love the cotton (especially MODA) on front, Warm and Natural batting in the middle, and quilter's cotton flannel on the back. The cotton alone does not look good, but with the flannel adding the fullness it's perfect.

Thank you DebbieJo. I do have this quilt listed at my etsy shop. I don't have one currently made, but would be able to have it ready to ship out to you on the July 5th. http://www.etsy.com/listing/72104475/rag-quilt-luna-notte-from-moda-custom Angie
Doe Harden asked:
Can you share instructions or pattern?
angela21080 answered:
This is a very straightforward quilt to make. I used three MODA 5" charm packs from the Luna Notte collection. for the front. You won't need all of the 5" squares. The middle is 3-1/2" squares of Warm and Natural batting. The back is 5" squares of a very soft quilter's flannel. There is a rag quilt tutorial on my website at http://sfquilts.com/tutorialragquilt.htm. I just laid the squares out row by row before I sewed to make sure that I didn't have the same color or pattern touching.
V Rhoden asked:
I love you rag quilt! What is the finished size from the 3 charm packs?
angela21080 answered:
With 1/2" seams it ends up at 36" x 48".

I love these quilts. Have made many for baby quilts. The last one I used the same pattern for the edges of the quilt. Gave it a different perspective.. It would be great to use the charm packs...already cut and ready to go.. :) Your quilt turned out beautifully!!
angela21080 answered:
Thank you. The charm packs do make it faster and the size is perfect for baby quilts.
