this is truly lovely. What a beautiful quilter u r. Do u use a longarm? I've just purchased a quilter 16 & have been practicing but not sure I'll ever be able to do the beautiful work u do. How often do u quilt? U say u used silk thread, where in the quilt did u do this & what did u have in the bobbin? Keep up the good work....
Emafish answered:
Thank you, simon! I use a domestic sewing machine. This quilt is only about 24'' square so it wasn't difficult to fit under the machine. I have dreamed about getting a longarm but I will have to win the lottery and get a larger apartment first! I used silk thread for all the quilting except the central blue star and blue star points; there, I used a thicker polyester thread that has a nice shine. Cotton thread was used for all the piecing. A 100 wt. (Kimono Silk) thread was used for the background and the border and a 50 wt. (Tire Silk) thread was used for the feathers in the peach diamonds. When I quilt, I almost always use the same thread on top and in the bobbin, even if it's silk thread. I find it much easier to get a nice stitch if I use the same thread in the bobbin and I don't have to spend as long getting the tension right. The silk thread is pricey but if you're doing fine work it makes all the difference. The fine silk also hides your mistakes better :)
